Testing the new EEL V4 48V DIY Box with JK Inverter BMS. Are we there yet???🫏
Many of you wanted me to test out this new V4 EEL 48V DIY Box, so here it is. This is again a trye DIY box which comes with all bits and pieces, so there is lots to do when building your own battery. During the assembly, I discovered a few things which were not perfect and would need some improvements to make this box really outstanding: the compression plate, a missing bracket for mounting the display (even mentioned in the instructions), bended pins on one of the PCBs, very small rubber feet to stack multiple boxes, only one terminal for pos and neg, reduced busbar diameter at the breaker connection and a few other things...

The EEL 12V Battery Case. I could not find anything negative. First ever 🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸?

Usually, I'm not particular excited when it comes to testing 12V batteries or battery cases. I had really no expectations about this EEL 12V DIY Battery Kit. It comes in a nice black/orange metal case, a 200A JK-BMS, flexible busbars, balance-PCB and compression plate. Wait, what??? Yeah, all features we usually see in the bigger 48V battery cases, right? I was very positively surprised when ch...

Also, the inside seems to be well designed and does not leave any further desires: middle fr...

Wow that is a disappointment about the box 'fit'. They looked good but then the hole alignment, and 'curved' panels. I bet the box took a tumble maybe in shipment? I'm glad I found you're channel. Hang in there, this looks good! I like your attention to detail on the wiring and routing of the heavy cables and the 90 degree sharp bends, etc. Sign of someone who knows what they are doing.

Ok, update here. Been running my 60A 100 Balance BMS now for a couple weeks, with apparently the latest firmware. It active balances while both discharging and charging when the cells are above 3.7V (my setting). For my first BMS, it has been running very well. I have the high voltage protect setting at 4.1V, I believe. Above 4.05V for all the cells (52.65V), it complains about "Cell voltage level high 1" I have my Victron 150/45 MPPT Bulk/Absorb at 52.65V and Float at 52V (54.6V is fully charged for a 13S Li-Ion battery), so according to the BMS, that's like at a 95% SOC. I could reset the BMS to show 52.65V as 100%

Hi Andy, Looking at your inverter bms movies about jk, I get a mixed bag feeling: cheap, decent balance current, but with different bugs and a non communicating manufacturer. My questions about the newest inverter bmsses: - are the battery settings now stored in flash (if even present on the boards)? - is it true only the ress versions can be connected with five of them to one cerbo without pushing the others siblings out of the nest? It would have been nice if the other active compacter black models that can handle up to 20 cells were compatible in a group of five with the cerbo. can they? Being not so shure if they can, I'll stick to my excisting an regretfully not so accurate and pricy 123smartbms that cost four times the price of the JK ones and need an external current measurement and cirquit breaker too....

Hi Andy, great video. I just bought you a beer (Simon K). You are doing amazing work. I have just seup two batteries in parallel using JK inverter BMS and your videos. My problem, is in the JK PC app(2.70 an 2.80) when the two BMS are in parallel (one DIP set to 0 the other set to 1) I cannot access anything except the "parallel" tab. I cannot change individual BMS settings all tabs are greyed-out except for "parallel". This is for a customer, and I want to be able to change BMS settings via the PC app, remotely not having to visit their site. I was able to configure each BMS separately when one was set to DIP 1 and one to DIP2. What am I doing wrong? Is there a trick to come out of parallel mode in the PC software or something? Many thanks for your time. UPDATE - I figured that parallel mode only activates if one of the BMS units is device 0 on the DIP switches. So I set BMS 1 to be device 0 and BMS 2 to be device 2 (not 1). Now I can ask the customer to flip BMS 1 DIP to device 1 - and now I can adjust settings and have full access via the remotely controlled PC. After changes are made the customer sets the DIP back to device 0. Not ideal but saves me a few hours drive.

Thank you for making this video, it gives us great ideas on how to do things better, and more cheaply than just buying cheap junk. Don't forget to always use stainless steel fasteners. Regular steel fasteners contain carbon. Carbon is used to make resistors. I have seen high current connections melt down simply because of a carbon steel fastener. If you use longer bolts coming up from the bottom, you will not be relying on the soft copper threads that may loosen, or pull out. Using stainless studs on the standoffs will give you a couple more connection points if you ever need it.

Just thinking about some past information I was reading on the internet, some sites were suggesting testing the discharge at battery's temperature of 25 degree c (77F). Higher temps can result in slightly higher capacity delivered (4% max), while cold slows down reactions inside a battery causing slightly higher internal impedance and slightly reduced useable capacity.

Hi Andy, you proved it: there ARE Germans with humor 🤣, maybe this is one of the reasons you left Germany being somewhat different? 😉. I really like watching your videos but am missing just one: multiple RESS BMSses on one Cerbo. For now I stay with my cellboard based flexible bms with hardware DIPswitches for cell balance voltage and stuff written in EPROM but these are way too expensive ( €600 for just one string of 18 batteries) and having the disadvantage of needing extra room, needed for each cell module hoovering above the cell poles.... Can you recommend me a BMS that's central, can control 16 (or maybe 18) LiFePO4 cells, has a balancing power of 1 or 2 Amps and works fine with 4 or five brothers together on a Cerbo (I ordered 40 extra LiFePO4 EVE LF280K cells and want to have 5 strings of 16 cells in parallel). @@OffGridGarageAustralia in fact that's not a ground, but potential equalization - i hope i got the right english expression, in german it's Potentialausgleich. Purposes are different, pot equalization protects you from pot differences, no matter if the item has any connection to any sort of electricity or not. Not needed for movable items, but it's ok if you do so.

Very nice, but I don't like that the communication cable between the batteries runs through the touchscreen. ELL should move the touchscreen closer to the main plus terminal. Also, two main plus and minus terminals would be better as one as well. I wrote the same comment to ELL under their video about this DIY Battery Box and they replied this: ,, This suggestion is very good, we will make changes according to your suggestion when we produce the next batch of shells, thank you. ,, YIXIANG battery box also has the same problem with the communication cable between the batteries runs through the touchscreen.

Ah, right, yeah, that's actually a good point. Unless you route your comms cables around the display.
